Piedmont Rug Hookers Guild

About Us

Piedmont Rug Hookers was formed in 1994 to meet the needs of the rug hookers in the Piedmont North Carolina area. It is a non profit guild devoted to the education and promotion of the art of traditional rug hooking. PRH is a chapter of the Association of Traditional Rug Hooking Artists (see below).

Our group consists of 40 to 50 members ranging in skill levels from masters of the art to complete beginner. We are lucky enough to have some certified teachers in our group whose love of the art and willingness to share their talent is appreciated by all the members.

Generally members are located in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Fayetteville, Hillsborough, and Pinehurst, but more members are scattered all over the piedmont area of NC. We all share a love of the traditional fiber art of rug hooking.

ATHA

PRH is a chapter of the Associaton of Traditional Rug Hooking Artists (ATHA). While it is not obligatory, we do recommend that PRH members belong to and support this association. ATHA was organized in 1979 to preserve the original methods of early American rug hooking.

ATHA provides a bi-monthly newsletter, an education program for those who wish to learn more or upgrade their skills and maintains a library of books, slides and videos which are available for members to borrow. ATHA is an open Guild for anyone interested in the art of traditional rug hooking.
